Juice Diet Plan: What a Nutritionist-Designed Day Looks Like

Quick answer: A juice diet is a short break, usually one to five days, where you swap meals for fresh cold-pressed juices, shots and a nut mylk. A well-planned day spreads around eight bottles from mid-morning to early evening, leans heavily on vegetables and is followed by an easy return to food. It is low in calories, so the scales often move, but most of that early change is water and stored carbohydrate rather than fat.

"Juice diet" gets searched a lot, and the advice online ranges from sensible to wild. This guide keeps it practical: what a juice diet actually is, what a real day on one of our cleanses looks like hour by hour, how to choose between one, three and five days, and an honest look at weight loss. Every Presscription cleanse is designed by our nutritionist, Grace Kingswell.

What is a juice diet?

A juice diet (you will also hear juice cleanse, juice detox or juice fast) means drinking fresh fruit and vegetable juices in place of solid food for a set number of days. Most people use one as a short reset: a few days off rich food, alcohol and snacking, with plenty of plants and fluid instead.

Not all juice diets are equal. The things that make the biggest difference are:

  • How much is vegetable: our cleanses are around 80% vegetables, which keeps the sugar from fruit in check.
  • How it is made: cold-pressing squeezes produce under pressure rather than shredding it at speed, and our juices are never pasteurised.
  • Freshness: every bottle is made fresh to order daily and delivered in glass.
  • Structure: a set order and timetable stops you getting overly hungry or drinking everything by lunchtime.

A real day on a Presscription juice diet

Here is a day on our most popular plan, the Signature Cleanse: five 500ml cold-pressed juices, one 500ml nut mylk and two 30ml shots. That is six drinks and two shots, numbered on the bottles so you always know what comes next.

Time Bottle What is in it
9:30am 1. The Green Revive Cucumber, celery, apple, romaine, lemon, ginger, cayenne
11:30am 2. The Amber Boost Alkaline water, lemon, lime, red chilli, coconut blossom nectar
12:30pm 3. The Anti (shot) Orange, turmeric, ginger, cayenne, lemon
1:30pm 4. The Orange Tonic Carrot, sweet potato, apple, lemon, flax oil, maca extract
3:30pm 5. The Red Remedy Beetroot, cucumber, carrot, celery, ginger, lemon
4:30pm 6. The Energize (shot) Pineapple, Siberian ginseng, ginkgo biloba
5:30pm 7. The Green Elixir Cucumber, kale, spinach, celery, romaine, pear
7:30pm 8. The Milk Make-Well Alkaline water, activated almonds, Medjool dates, Himalayan sea salt, vanilla bean

Why this order? The day opens with a zingy green to wake up your taste buds, puts the sweeter, more filling juices around lunchtime and mid-afternoon when energy tends to dip, and finishes with a creamy almond mylk that feels more like a pudding than a juice. The two shots are small, sharp hits between the bigger bottles. Drink water and herbal tea in between.

In London, your cleanse arrives the night before, so you can start at 9:30am on the dot. Elsewhere in the UK it arrives on the morning of your start date; start when it lands and shift the timings to fit.

1, 3 or 5 days: which juice diet suits you?

  • 1 day: the best place to start if you have never done a juice diet. It is easy to fit into a quiet weekday or a Sunday, and it shows you how your body and appetite respond.
  • 3 days: a good middle ground. It suits people who have juiced before, or want a proper reset after a busy few weeks, holidays or a run of late nights. Day two is usually the hardest; by day three most people find their rhythm.
  • 5 days: for experienced juicers who want a longer break from their usual routine. Our 5 day juice cleanse lets you choose from the Signature, Intermediate, Advanced, Weight Loss, Gut, Sugar Detox and Active plans, so you can pick the flavours and focus that suit you.

Not sure? Start with one day, see how it feels, then step up. You can compare every plan in our juice cleanse range.

Juice diet for weight loss: the honest version

Most people who look up a juice diet want to know one thing: will I lose weight? Here is the straight answer.

A short juice diet is low in calories compared with a normal day of eating, so many people see the scales move. Most of that early drop is water and glycogen (the carbohydrate your body stores in your muscles and liver, which holds on to water). It tends to come back once you are eating normally again, which is completely expected.

Where a juice diet can genuinely help is as a starting point. A few days without snacking, takeaways and alcohol can make it easier to notice your habits, reset your sense of portion size and go into the following weeks with better routines. Lasting weight loss comes from what you eat and how you move over months, not from a few days.

We will not promise you a number, and you should be wary of anyone who does. If weight loss is your main goal, our Weight Loss Cleanse is one of the plans on the 5 day cleanse, and our guide on whether you should count calories covers the bigger picture.

Tips for an easier juice diet

Stay hydrated

Your juices count towards your fluid, but drink plenty of water and caffeine-free herbal tea alongside them. Thirst is easily mistaken for hunger, so reach for water first if you feel peckish between bottles.

Ease in

Two or three days before you start, cut back on alcohol, caffeine, sugar, processed food and red meat, and eat more vegetables, fruit and whole grains. It makes day one far more comfortable. Our guide on how to prepare for a juice cleanse has the full plan.

Ease out

Do not go straight from juice to a big dinner. Spend a day or two on warm, simple food in smaller portions: soup, porridge, eggs and cooked vegetables. Follow our what to eat after a juice cleanse plan, day by day.

Keep the day light

Plan your juice diet for days without heavy exercise or big social plans. Gentle walks, stretching and an early night all help.

Check with your GP first if…

Speak to your GP before starting if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have diabetes or another medical condition, take regular medication, have kidney problems, are under 18, or have a history of disordered eating. If you feel unwell at any point, stop and eat.
