Glass vs. Plastic
The bottom line is this: If a juice comes in a glass bottle then it can’t have been tampered with.
We’ve been discussing what it means to HPP a juice over on another post, but in brief, High Pressure Processing is the way that most juices these days come to sit on our shelves. It drastically increases the shelf life of a juice, to up to 40 days, but in doing so most of the living enzymes and microbes are lost from the juice. You can’t pressurise a glass bottle, hence why you know you’re safe if you stick to glass. What’s inside has been pressed, bottled and sent to you - it’s as simple as that.
For us, the nutritional integrity of our juices is paramount and we are 100% committed to our glass bottles for this reason. Moreover, plastic is a porous material, meaning it breathes, whereas glass is completely non-permeable meaning there are no interactions between the packaging and the product which could affect the flavour and taste. Ever had a bottle of water that tastes like the plastic bottle that it’s packaged in? This can happen with your juice too, especially if it’s been HPPd and has a long shelf life. Glass doesn’t contain any harmful chemicals either. Most plastics these days herald themselves as being ‘BPA free,’ but that shouldn’t detract from the fact that most plastics still contain other chemicals which can leach into your drink.
Environmentally speaking, we are proud to be using glass and doing our bit to keep as much plastic out of our environment as possible. We collect the used glass bottles that our cleanses come in from our customers too. If you order a three day cleanse then the next time you make an order we’ll collect the old bottles, or, if you’re doing anything longer than three days then we collect your first set of bottles when we deliver your second batch of juices. So many of our customers love this aspect of our business and readily store up their old bottles for us to collect and recycle directly back into our supply chain.
Single use plastic is arguably one of the easiest ways to cut down on your environmental impact.
